Organised Tours

Explore the Island either by taxi, organized tours which you can pre-book on the RMS St Helena, or visit the Tourist Office and try one of local tour guides.

Most organised tours are exclusively organised for most RMS arrivals.   The organised tours are well planned and enable you to view the island's magnificent landscapes, its history, its people, and key sites.  These tours include:

Corkers Tours - view the island in a 1929 open-top charabanc

Magma Way tours - these include guided botanical, and Jamestown tours

Aaron's Adventure Tours - experience a wild St Helena Adventure

 

 

Boat Tours:

Take a boat trip; there are a variety of trips available, dolphin watching, shoreline cruises, Speery Island and Egg Island seabird habitats, seabird trips, coastal picnics and round the island trips.

Pink Lady - seats up to 9 passengers

The Gannet - seats up to 30 passengers

The Hustler - seats up to 10 passengers

Glass Bottom Boat Tours -  seats up to 18 passengers

Check the Tourist Office for further information upon arrival.

 

Napoleonic Sites Tour:   

 

The Briars Pavilion

Napoleon's first residence for 3 months whist renovations to Longwood House were being completed. The pavilion was originally a summerhouse on the Balcombe Estate and it was here that Napoleon made friends with the Balcombe's young daughter, Betsy.

Longwood House

Napoleon's last residence where he spent the final six years of his life. The property is now a Museum and maintained by the Government of France; the house is filled with Napoleonic memorabilia.

Napoleon's Tomb

Burial place of Napoleon Bonaparte until 1841. He chose this valley as his burial place as on one of his walks was delighted with the tranquil landscape and plants that grew there.

Visits consist of a guided tour at these fixed times:

The Briars Pavilion                            10.00 am                     Monday - Friday

Longwood House                               11.00 am                     Monday - Friday

Napoleon's Tomb                              12.30  to 3.30 pm          Monday - Friday.

The Tomb is only open on the days when a tour is booked.

To avoid disappointment, we strongly advise you to check availability and book your preferred date of visit with the Tourist Office soon after your arrival on St Helena.

Tours must be booked for these sites one day in advance at the Tourist Office, where you will be issued with a free tour pass.

 

Plantation House Tour:

We strongly advise you to check availability and book your preferred date of visit to Plantation House with the Tourist Office soon after your arrival on St Helena.

Tours for Plantation House, by appointment only, must be booked one day in advance at the Tourist Office, where you will be issued with a tour pass.  The admission fee for Plantation House Tours is £3 per person.

 

Island Tours:

Take an island tour which takes about 3-4 hours and discover what makes St Helena such an attractive destination.

You can arrange an island tour with various local drivers who can also give you a guided tour, or hire a car and do it yourself with our ‘Discover the country side' brochure.  Don't feel that you have to follow the exact route; the ‘discover the country side' brochure is just a guide to help you find key attractions you on your journey.

You can start at Lower Jamestown, visiting our eighteenth and nineteenth century buildings, then head to the Napoleonic Sites on to Sandy Bay ridges where the landscape is green and lush with interesting rock features, St Paul's to visit Jonathan the oldest tortoise, Half Tree Hollow the largest populated district on the Island, Ladder Hill to look down the 699 steps of Jacob's Ladder for stunning views of lower Jamestown and then return back to Jamestown either by car or a steep descent down the ladder.
