History in a Nutshell!
An island so small, yet with an amazing history, an island that for centuries lay in the uncharted waters of the Atlantic, undiscovered, until the 21st May 1502. An island which since then was initially fought over by the Portuguese, Dutch and English, and finally settled by the British in 1659, used as an important world victualling station in the days of sailing ships, an island which has been visited by many famous people and also used as a place of exile for some famous prisoners
