Hire drives and Taxis
For those wishing to be more independent, why not hire a car and discover the island at your own pace. Many of our visitors have found that this is an excellent way of getting about both day and evening.
Renting a car can cost between GBP10.00 - GBP15.00 per day.
It is highly recommended that you book prior to arrival.
Car Rental Facts:
- Most rental rates include third party insurance, therefore any minor damages e.g. broken headlight, wing-mirror, etc, will be billed to the client.
- Before driving, the hirer must register at the Police Station in Jamestown. This is just a formality to record details of your Driver's License.
- Visitors must hold and bring with them a valid driving licence with no endorsements for dangerous driving or drunken driving in the last 5 years and must be 21 years and over (restrictions may be imposed by some companies in respect of the upper age limit)
- St Helena drives on teh left hand side of the road.

Taxis:
There is a taxi rank opposite EB Stores in Main Street, Jamestown, which is in use during the day. For a taxi in the evening, it is advised that you book in advance. There are no set tariffs and you should therefore check rates before embarking on your journey. Extra charges are usually made for waiting time. Taxi's are listed in our Telephone Directory or contact our office for assistance.
